The Dubai Traffic Court has fined a European driver AED3,000 after convicting him of causing injury and damage to a motorcyclist through negligence and lack of attention. The court found that he failed to leave a sufficient safety distance between his vehicle and the vehicles ahead of him and then left the accident scene without stopping, despite the rider being injured.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Bur Dubai Police Station. According to case records, the accused was driving without sufficient attention and failed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front of him. He collided with a motorcycle ridden by an Emirati man, causing physical injuries to the rider and damage to the motorcycle.

According to the case papers, the driver did not stop at the scene after the collision despite the rider being injured. The Public Prosecution therefore charged him with causing injury to another person through negligence, damaging another person’s property, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident without an acceptable excuse.

The arrest and transfer reports, road accident report and accident diagram established the defendant’s responsibility for the collision as a result of his driving error and failure to maintain a sufficient safety distance. The court also relied on his confession, the evidence-gathering report, Public Prosecution investigations, the accident diagram and the injured rider’s medical report.

During the hearing, the accused appeared before the court and admitted the charges against him. The court was satisfied with the evidence and imposed a fine, applying the rules governing linked offences and reducing the penalty in consideration of the circumstances of the incident and the accused.

The court ordered the driver to pay a fine of Dh3,000. Court records showed that the fine was paid and the matter was closed by the Traffic Prosecution.
