TASHKENT — The Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan announced an international calligraphy competition to create a unique copy of the Holy Qur’an. This initiative is part of the International Media Forum with the theme of “Islamic civilization: A new perspective and new discoveries,” held in the Uzbek capital city of Tashkent.
The competition falls under the “World of Qur’an: From the traditions of Arabic calligraphy to the heritage of the future” project. Its aim is to create a unique copy of the Holy Qur’an that embodies the most prominent traditions of Islamic calligraphy, distinct from various countries and schools of calligraphy, reflecting the richness of this art, the diversity of its schools, and its civilizational reach.
The project invites calligraphers from around the world to participate in writing the Holy Qur’an, bringing together different schools and styles of Islamic calligraphy into a single artistic and cultural work. This will contribute to highlighting the historical significance of Arabic calligraphy and its connection to writing the Holy Qur’an throughout the ages.
The announcement of the competition came as part of the forum’s activities, which included a review of several cultural and scientific projects related to the Holy Qur’an, manuscripts, and Islamic heritage, within the framework of the Islamic Civilization Center’s efforts to preserve, promote, and present the cultural heritage in contemporary ways.
