UAE weather: High humidity brings fog warning as temperatures reach 49°C

Dubai: Humidity levels are climbing in the UAE today, leading to foggy mornings and reduced visibility, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The NCM forecasts today’s weather to be fair to partly cloudy at times, with a chance of convective cloud formation eastward and southward by afternoon that may be associated with rainfall.

Rising humidity

With humidity levels reaching 65% to 85% in internal areas, and between 70% to 90% in mountainous, coastal and island regions, you can expect mist and fog formation overnight and in the early morning hours tomorrow, in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and across other emirates.

The NCM urges motorists to be cautious when driving in such conditions, as visibility may reduce to zero at times, increasing the chances of accidents or collisions.

Mid-40 temperatures

Temperatures continue to remain high today, across the UAE.

The NCM forecasts coastal and island regions to experience highs between 40°C and 45°C, while internal regions will be warmer, at 44°C to 49°C.

Abu Dhabi will peak at 46°C today, while Dubai and Sharjah will reach 45°C. Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah will see highs of 44°C, while Fujairah will be slightly cooler at 36°C. Al Ain and Liwa will experience the highest temperatures in the country, at 47°C and 49°C respectively.

Calm to moderate seas

You can expect light to moderate winds, freshening at times, today, and reaching up to 35km/h along the coast. The NCM expects the following sea conditions:

Arabian Gulf: Slight conditions, with gentle waves, reaching heights of two feet on-shore and three feet off-shore.

Sea of Oman: Slight to moderate conditions, with waves reaching two feet on-shore, and up to four feet off-shore.
