Abu Dhabi will host the inaugural Euroleague Basketball SuperCup next month, bringing four major clubs — including the UAE’s Dubai Basketball — to the capital for the new season-opening tournament.
The competition will take place at Etihad Arena on Yas Island on September 18 and 19, with Olympiacos Piraeus, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Real Madrid and Dubai Basketball competing over two days.
The tournament will follow a Final Four format, with two matches played each day. On September 18, Olympiacos will face Fenerbahce at 6pm UAE time, followed by Dubai Basketball against Real Madrid at 9pm.
The third-place game will take place at 6pm on September 19, before the first Euroleague Basketball SuperCup champion is crowned in the final at 9pm.
The new tournament builds on Abu Dhabi’s growing relationship with Euroleague Basketball following the city’s hosting of the EuroLeague Final Four.
“The first edition of the Euroleague Basketball SuperCup is another milestone in Abu Dhabi’s long-term partnership with Euroleague Basketball,” said Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.
He added that bringing four elite clubs to the Emirate would further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a destination for major international sporting events.
